I've applied warmed clay first underneath the foam pieces squishing it onto the wire armature then squishing the foam pieces back in place similar to brick and mortar. The clay cools and it secures the foam to the armature so the sculpture wont wiggle loosely on the armature further down the road. And it will. without doing this. The clay is warmed in a 18 quart portable roaster oven at around 150 F.

I have an old microwave that I use for my plasticine. I put it in for a minute or as needed. I've turned it into soup to pour in a mold for a take away sculpture. Usually try to do smaller amounts then a huge load all at once.
Great pics ! Beautiful work!!

hello i love your work ^^
im doing a more simple sculpture but almost as big using a method very close to yours, using this Klean Clay stuff, and bulking out much of the capacity space with foam. but i was wondering what sort of foam you used, as i soon discoverd that harder foam was a lot more tricky to get hold of.
if you can help, thanks very much,
happy sculpting ^^

Why foam core instead of aluminum foil? Is it because you prefer more uniformed shaping for your blocking?

At this size sculpture aluminum foil is not a good choice.
Too expensive is just one reason. Too heavy compared to
rigid foam at this size.

fascinating, what exactly is the medium you're working with? It reminds me of my early days working stoneware but I know it can't be that.
