My feeling is that if you want to make "art" it should be all You, not a collection of other artists work to make stuff that you call your own art.
That's just not honest and borderlines on plagiarism. Being inspired by other art work can fuel ones own creativity, but it's not the same as directly
using other artwork or imagery, tweaking it a bit and re-naming it your own. You can really get into a lot of trouble that way and never really emerge as a true
independent artist.

Lots of my work here on DA is 'commercial art' and I'm commissioned by other companies to create legal, licensed work to be reproduced and
sold. My 'fine art' work is all my own and I'm very proud and protective of it. 

I hope you understand. Now I'll step down off my soap box. :)

I'm 48. I've been doing this for around 28 years now.
Holy crap! I'm old. I'm pretty much self taught. Lots of time
spent playing with clay.
