That is what I call an armature support. It is simply calvnizes pipe. The kind plummers use. You can find it in any Orchard Supply Hardware, or Home Depot, or nearly any hardware or home improvement store.

Wow, this is really coming together nicely. The anatomcial features are awesome. I was staring at the arm muscles for ages. The bicep is really taking strain but his arm remains straight, so the muscle is really taught. You can see a lot of movement in this. It's going to be amazing when it's completed.

This still must have been a bear to sculpt in this pose. Especially at that scale. I can see why you'd do the head separately and add it.
As always, you're a master at structure and anatomy. The tension of the pose is all there.

This is sculpted in J-mac classic clay. An oil base clay.
